What International Wines Do You Buy and Why?

So many wines so little time.  Of course us BC-ers all love BC wines but most of us drink wines from all over the world. Which wines do you drink that are from outside of Canada?  Why do you choose these wines?  Is it the price, the price to quality ratio, the packaging, a recommendation by a friend?  Are you choosing an international wine because of the country or the variety or both?

How often do you choose a wine from outside of BC or Canada as compared with one from another country?  Is it something you do all the time or only on rare occasion?

Recommendations, discussion on pricing, value of wine and what you choose to buy–all in this week’s quick one hour discussion on #BCWineChat.  Follow, watch, participate.  We’d love to have you!

July 11, 2012 8-9pm PST: The Underappreciated. The Next Grape Stars of BC

HERE’S HOW THE CHAT WENT:

THE UNDERAPPRECIATED: THE NEXT GRAPE STARS OF BC

All grape varieties seem to go through periods of popularity that eventually decline over time when consumers look to the new “hot” (or “cool” in the case of grape growing) thing.

What varieties do you think are currently underappreciated in BC? Are there varieties that used to be popular but now are not given their due? Are there varieties that  some wineries have made very popular but the wine consumers have not yet discovered?

We live in a wine growing region that is still highly experimental and is always looking for that next “star variety” that will be both well-suited for grape growing, winemaking as well as appeal to customers.  Tonight we will explore what some of these down trodden or yet-to-be-discovered varieties might be.

July 4, 2012 8-9pmPST: The Ageability of BC Wines

HERE’S HOW THE CHAT WENT:

THE AGEABILITY OF BC WINES

How well are BC wines aging?  Are there some varieties that seem to age very well and others not at all?  Are there viticultural areas that seem to be producing wines that last for longer than others?

We all know that the vast majority of people never age their wines at all after purchase, but it is nice to know that if you have hung onto a bottle of wine that it will still be good  when you choose to open it up–possibly even better.

Join us this Wednesday July 4 to discuss how well BC wines age.  Bring your questions and your personal experiences–it promises to be a very interactive discussion!
